Pierogi! The Polish pride. The dish of many, many flavours. Sweet, sour, exquisite and simple, vegetarian, with meat, fruits or whatever you like. One of the most popular and one of the best Polish dishes. Among these food treasures, you will find one of my favourite "pierogi ruskie" - with potato and cottage cheese stuffing.

While learning about pierogi, you have to remember that they don't seem to be difficult, but it is easy to make them tasteless. During the workshop, I would like to introduce you to this topic and learn how to make "pierogi ruskie", but due to my family's special recipe with the addition of two famous mountain kinds of sheep cheese. They are just delicious! We will also prepare a second kind of savoury pierogi.

We will also need some dessert for this occasion. I will serve you a typical Polish dessert, which is fruit cake! To make it a full dinner experience, we will try a Polish cuisine queen - soup.

You will get to my place by Uber/Bolt in 15 min. from the city centre, it is quick ride, and I promise the view on the Wolski forest, Przegorzały castle, and one of the most unique monasteries in Europe - Kameduli is worth it!

What you'll cook

In one workshop you make pierogi ruskie - the traditional, with twaróg and a generous heap of caramelised onion, the way my family makes it, or the vegan version I worked out with tofu and a splash of sauerkraut brine for plant-based guests. Which one we cook depends on you: tell me when you book and I'll have the right ingredients ready. If a group wants to try both side by side, we can do that too.

You'll do all of the hands-on bits yourself - mixing and resting the dough, prepping the filling, rolling thin enough that you can almost see through it, folding and pinching each pierogi closed before they go into the pot.

We sit down together to eat - a Polish soup to start (a clear broth or fresh barszcz, depending on the day), the pierogi you've just made, and a proper Polish dessert to finish.

You leave with the recipes for both fillings and the dough, written out so you can make them again at home.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to cook? +

No - this is built for first-timers. If you've never made dough in your life you'll still leave with proper pierogi. Cooks who already know their way around a kitchen pick up a few traditional Polish moves that aren't in any cookbook.

Do you offer a vegan version? +

Yes - if you let me know when you book I'll prep the vegan filling (tofu and a splash of sauerkraut brine in place of the curd cheese). The dough, soup, sides and dessert can all run dairy-free too. Same flavours, plant-based.

Where will the class take place? +

At my home, on the quieter green side of Kraków near the Vistula and Las Wolski. Around a 15-minute taxi from the Old Town.

What's the price and how long does it run? +

Roughly 3 hours from start to finish. The fee covers ingredients, all the equipment, any food we make and extras mentioned in the description, drinks, and the printed recipe to take home.

Are kids welcome? +

Yes - my own two are usually somewhere nearby. Drop me a message before booking and we'll sort the details.

Can I book it for a private group? +

Happy to. A group of friends, family in town, a birthday, a small team outing - up to 10 of us at the table comfortably.

I have other dietary needs - gluten-free, soy-free, nut allergy? +

Message me before you book and I'll be straight about whether I can adapt the menu safely for you.

How does cancellation work? +

Cancel up to 24 hours before the start and you get a full refund.

Cooking has always been in my house something more than just food. The heart of the house has always been the kitchen, in which we would sit with my beloved to share food, stories, everyday problems, and happiness. A home without the smell of tasty pie, hot soup, and a welcoming smile just isn't a real one.I would like to introduce you to Polish cuisine, which, I believe, is still not well-discovered. The second great passion that I would like to share with you is Polish art and culture, and my knowledge about my hometown, Kraków. I will share some stories and tips about the city if you like. I will be happy to welcome you to my house.

We were a group of 6 and had a wonderful night with Hannah and her husband enjoying a fantastic home cooked polish meal and their great company. They made us feel so welcome and we learned so much about Polish life and history. The evening flew by and we parted as friends.

Hanna was a bit concerned that people might be put off because their home is slightly out of the city centre. I would say absolutely don't be put off, it was an easy 10-15 minute taxi ride, and in the summer you could easily cycle on the riverside path direction to their house. Anyway, the evening and the food is worth a few minutes in a cab.

Highly recommended!

From a guest in the group: The atmosphere was very family-like. Ms. Hanna engaged the entire group in making pierogi. Everyone participated with great enthusiasm. The workshop was held in a wonderful atmosphere, with conversations and anecdotes from the childhoods of both the group and Hanna. Interesting stories about the culinary history of Poland and Krakow were also shared. The closing feast took place in the kitchen where the workshop was held. The tableware was very interesting, and the pierogi dishes were delicious! After all, after such a good lesson, everything had to be delicious, and we were diligent students. And one more thing – the borscht! The red (beetroot) borscht that Ms. Hania served was delicious! Therefore, the culinary workshops led by Ms. Hanna were a hit and I recommend them to everyone!
