The Polish House
Our culinary meeting takes place in the beautiful Polish countryside not far from Krakow – about 30km south of the city towards Lanckorona and Wadowice. Marta will prepare a traditional Polish meal with local produce, much of which is grown in her cottage garden. Every last Saturday of the month throughout the summer, you can join her in a magical garden in the heart of the countryside. We will sit down outside and enjoy local produce in the fresh air. For sure, there will be several well-known dishes, starting with a soup – probably chicken broth, or fresh vegetable soup, then a main course of meat grilled on an open fire, or goulash cooked on a traditional wooden stove. For dessert, look out for delicious cheesecake with chocolate sauce, sprinkled with wild berries from the garden. Sometimes we cook a traditional “prażone” on the fire – ie a cast iron cooking pot filled with potatoes, bacon, cabbage, onion, wild duck or beef. For vegetarians, I will happily prepare fresh dumplings and salads. Delicious! Afterwards, we can go for a stroll in the surrounding forest – if you’ve never before collected mushrooms, now’s the time to discover a new passion You can come to the Polish House with children, animals, even aliens… the house is always open to good people !

For the last 12 years, I have been teaching people how to cook delicious food at my home, and I also run food workshops such as the Pierogi Power Workshop, Fermentation Workshop and more. Recently I was the host of a big food event for The Krakow Pierogi Festival and Harvest Festival. (I also appear regularly on TV and radio as a guest, discussing subjects related to home cooking, the sharing economy and food tech.) I’ve always enjoyed sharing my knowledge of my beautiful hometown, and more about the art of Polish cuisine, both through the website and with all the wonderful travellers I meet in person.My grandmother and my mother were great cooks. That means delicious, home-made food freshly-prepared.Restaurants are great, but sometimes it seems it would be better to enjoy a home-cooked meal with someone who can also tell me a bit more about their experiences, their lives and their cities. So, I’ve decided to do exactly that. I cook for up to 14 people at my home in Krakow and you’re invited. Please join me!

We always try to do a cooking class when we travel to Europe, delighting in learning to cook the specialties from the country we are visiting. They are usually one of the top highlights of our trips. Marta’s Pierogi cooking class was definitely a top highlight of our trip to Poland and one of the best cooking classes we have done. There were only six of us, which made it an intimate experience. Marta welcomed us as if we were family. Her love of cooking and love of Krakow was so evident and contagious. After making our Pierogi, we enjoyed a delicious meal of salad, our pierogi master pieces and sausages. We then delighted in Marta’s fabulous cheesecake with salted caramel sauce. The entire experience was perfect!

Marta is lovely, warm and welcoming, and the whole experience takes place in her home in a very special and cozy atmosphere.
We learned how to make pierogi completely from scratch, including the dough and fillings, and at the end we sat down for a full meal, not just a tasting. Everything was delicious, generous and beautifully prepared.
It was one of the best experiences of our trip to Krakow, both a fun activity and a wonderful meal.
