Nowruz (literally "new day") is the name festival celebrated worldwide as the beginning of the New Year. It is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and it celebrates renewal and rebirth, symbolized by the coming of spring. Nowruz has been celebrated for over 3000 years by people in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, and the Balkans. This festival is deeply rooted in the rituals and traditions of the Zoroastrian belief system of the Sasanian period (3rd-7th century AD), which was the religion of Ancient Persia before the advent of Islam in the 7th century AD.

The tradition of spring cleaning is very strongly linked with Nowruz as well as tradition of painting eggs. The colored eggs symbolize fertility and later became incorporated into Christian traditions surrounding Easter, which usually falls around the same time as Nowruz.

The return of the spring was seen to have great spiritual significance and it still symbolises the triumph of good over evil and joy over sorrow.

The most important activity in the celebration of Nowruz is setting the haft-seen table that is set with the seven S items which include Sumac (crushed spice of berries) to symbolize the sunrise and the spice of life, Senjed (sweet dry fruit of the lotus tree) for love and affection, Serkeh (vinegar) for patience and age, Seeb (apples) for health and beauty, Sir (garlic) for good health, Samanu (wheat pudding) for fertility and the sweetness of life, and Sabzeh (sprouted wheat grass) for rebirth and renewal of nature. Some families add a volume of poetry by Hafez, one of Iran's most beloved poets.

kreatorka, podróżniczka, aktywistka, absurdystka, poszukiwaczka i zdobywczyniI was raised by chickens in the heart of a cabbage-land. Since an early age I was exploring my creative side using any materials I could find in the hen-house with little enthusiasm from the chickens. When I reached adolescence I realized that my wings are strong enough to take me anywhere I wished so I flew to an island across the sea. There I learned about the cynicism of the business world. I came back and I learned about the cynicism of the academia. Years of university and corporation have almost completely wrecked my creative soul. Thus I took the little bit that was left of my soul and flew across the ocean to do something good. There I have learnt about the cynicism of the humanitarian world. I buried the ashes of my soul and I couldn't be more surprised when one day I saw it sprouting in a barren soil. Bashfully I started doing this and that. Now I'm back in the cabbage-land and I keep doing creative stuff including cooking.

Em hosted us for the delicious Persian rubies dinner. Em is a truly talented (and knowledgeable!) cook and it was a pleasure to try a new kind of food. We spent a real lovely, cozy evening together which was also an excellent opportunity to introduce a couple of friends to Eataway. Thank you again!

Idealnie doprawiony sos i zupa.
