shared meal Amman, Jordan

Jordanian traditional dish. Composed of lamb meat cooked in Jameed (locally produced dried fermented yogurt), served in a big dish, the dish is layered with local bread called Shrak, topped with a huge amount of rice, then lamb pieces are arranged on top. Served with Jameed (yogurt) soup along with a dish of onions and a green salad. This dish has its own rituals, it is best eaten with a group of family and friends. Traditionally, should be eaten by hand, there is a special way for that, that we can demonstrate/teach to you.

After a heavy meal like Mansaf, we will serve coffee (Arabic or Turkish) in order to aid in digestion. You should be aware that after Mansaf you might enter into a food coma.

Dessert part will be Kunafeh (local sweet made of melted cheese, topped with Kunafeh pastry that is orange in color and then we conclude with flavored black tea (sage or mint).

Water and soft drink (soda) will be served.

Where will you be hosted for this meal?

Amman, typical average Ammani neighborhood, where Jordanians live. A very local residential area. At a family house where our host (mother / grandmother) will be cooking traditional meals according to authentic and traditional methods. The experience you will get is an authentic traditional meal prepared by a mother who picks all the ingredients by herself and who knows what should be an authentic taste for a traditional dish should be.
