shared meal Kraków, Poland

What will it be this time? Seasonal fruit and vegetables, home-made sauces, delicious dishes, cakes and an exceptional seasonal fruit jelly (despite the fact it’s winter). We would like to invite you to our old flat in a 19th century mansion in the centre of Krakow.

Every year while we are enjoying shopping on our favourite food markets we are surprised by an increasing variety of fruit, vegetables, fish, spices and flowers after summer. We are overwhelmed by the autumn colours and fragrances. It is an immense pleasure to explore this variety which inspires us to further develop our passion for cooking.

We invite you to enjoy some of the tastiest dishes made of young, fresh vegetables, a delicious soup made of pumpkin, chicory with pear or white ("żurek") and red borscht and “specialite de la maison” – turkey roast, or pierogi and golombki. We hope to welcome you soon!

Małgorzata: Although I qualified as an architect my career was actually focused on... fashion design. I still design clothes for friends and family and occasionally on commission.Piotr: I worked as an architect for 40 years and now retired. My main occupation, actually by chance, became preserving food at home.We both enjoy cooking albeit in different styles and according to different recipes. Malgorzata often cooks according to five elements theory, as well as gluten-free and vegetarian. Piotr cooks according to his intuition which is spot on as he improvises often and can surprise even the most sophisticated foodies. And since we both prepare a lot of food preserves, we have now accumulated a large cupboard of compotes, jams, chutneys, caramelised fruit and veg and gherkins which we often use in our recipes. We live in an old flat in central Krakow together with our cat and a large number of plants that are scattered along every window to get as much light as possible.

We had a brilliant afternoon with Malgorzata and Piotr. They’re a live couple and it was so interesting to have some traditional polish food and drink. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone travelling to Kraków. Immerse yourself in the culture and join this lovely couple for lunch.

Our meal and the visit to Malgorzata and Piotr's apartment was the highlight of my visit to Krakow. Every item on the menu was home made and tasted wonderful. This included the bread, the plum cordial, the cherry vodka, all the side dishes and main meals. There had been a lot of care given to the food. We learnt a lot about their lives and the history of Poland and Krakow.

This was the first time myself or my friend Ben had done anything like this before and I have to say at times I was somewhat entranced by the atmosphere and surroundings. While we were there we got a sense of how different Polish families were. I loved their connection with food, which coming from England is something I've not witnessed.

The food was lovely, and there wasn't anything I didn't eat (I can be picky about food). The standout food was the slow cooked pork they were very careful not to give away the recipe. The homemade cheery vodka was wonderful, and not being a fan of vodka I found this drink to be wonderful.

In between the various courses there was discussion from the hosts about their lives etc, which I won't go into as you can find out for yourselves.

Five people attended this event, and there was plenty of discussion between us all.

I can't remember how I found this website, but after the experience of having dinner with this lovely Polish couple, this is an experience I would happily repeat in another country at another time.

Thank you so much xx

Gosia and Piotr are wonderful hosts and better chefs. They offered us (a group of 7) a very traditional polish Easter meal at their cozy house in the heart of Krakow.

Very friendly atmosphere and very tasty recipies. That was what I was exactly looking for.

I could even come back to Krakow just to join them next time!

Just had our Easter "breakfast and dinner: with Piotr and Malgorzata. This was our first Eataway experience, and all I can say is that it absolutely fabulous and exceeded all of our expectations. First, Piotr and Malgorzata are wonderful hosts...genuinely nice people who welcomed us to in their home like we were old friends. It was a genuine pleasure to just share their company. Second, their flat is a pretty cool place....right in the heart of Krakow and it has a sophisticated, artsy, raw, unfinished kind of look. Malgorzata creates a lot of her on art and has it on display, so the home really shows her personality. Finally, and I suppose many won say most importantly, the food. I'm hardly an expert on Polish cuisine, but this couple can cook. The food is not elaborate or elegant, but it is honest home cooked comfort food. We got to experience multiple kinds of herring, a Polish/Russian Vegetable Salad, Polish coldcuts/pate', homemade bread, a main dish of pork with bacon, multiple side dishes, three desserts, and plenty of wine, bison grass, and Malgorzata's home made spirits. Everything was delicious, and you could tell it was made from this couple's hearts....in total, it was one of the best meals I have ever had. You are missing out if you don't make some time to share a meal with Piotr and Malgorzata. I know we will be back next time we return to Krakow.
