Traditional Romanian fried dough

shared meal Bucharest, Romania

If you are a foodie with a plan to visit Romania, then, you must have read about our cabbage rolls, polenta, sour soups, mititei (mici) and the other frugal, yet decadently hearty dishes. But there isn't anything Romanians love more than "scovergi" (fried dough)! In fact, I haven't yet met a Romanian who doesn't like them.

Scovergi are the embodiment of our childhood memories, when too much dough was simply too much dough and not too many calories. They remind us of our grandmas, gurus of fried dough making and ninjas of fried dough filling! Because, if you don't know it already, it takes time, perseverance and a few grandchildren to master this art.

Moms are pretty good at it too, that's why they got married in the first place :)

Leaving the fried dough myth aside, I invite you in a real home - my home - where a real grandma - my mom- will show you and, if you wish, even teach you the magic of fried dough making. Served with local cheeses and homemade jams. Finger licking allowed.
